Beauty 101: Retinoids and Sunscreen

Ladies, there is no way around aging. As time goes on, things on our bodies are gonna sag, drop, fall down and dry up, but there is always something that you can do to prevent and minimize many skin aging issues.
Class begins now.

Lesson #1. Turkey Neck

Ladies, have you noticed that the skin around your neck is fairly thin? Go ahead, touch it. Feels different from the skin on your face, right? Let me ask another question. When was the last time you put moisturizer or sunscreen on your neck? Well, because the skin on your neck is thinner (and often neglected) it's prone to the wear, tear and SAGGING! Gobble. Gobble.

What You Need To Do:

TLC, ladies. TLC! Remember, skincare is all about prevention. Grab your retinoid creams, and begin to take care of your neck the same way you take care of your face. Retinoid creams stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in order to tighten wrinkles.

Cold, Hard Fact:

Once you have turkey neck, nothing from a bottle (expensive or not) will fix it. Unfortunately, laser will not work either. What is needed is surgery. It's the most effective and long-lasting way to solve this problem. A plastic surgeons will cut behind the ears, suction fat, tighten/shorten the platysma muscle and sculpt the neck.
Lesson #2. Lip Wrinkles

Have you noticed that when you put on lipstick, it bleeds into those, um, lines around your mouth? Those lines are called perioral rhytids. So, what causes them?  The usual: Sun exposure, repetitive pursing of the lips, loss of collagen, subcutaneous fat, and elastin, and genetics.

What You Need To Do:

Well, if you smoke, there's nothing you can do. But, if you don't smoke, listen up. Again, prevention is key. Apply sunscreen to your skin daily. Make retinoids creams your friend. Remember, they help build collagen.

Cold, Hard Fact:

If the lines are deep, an ablative laser treatment such as Fraxel may be in order. This treatment resurfaces the skin. Injections may be an option as well. Restylane can be used to plump up the creases around your mouth. Results from this procedure generally last up to six months.

Lesson #3. Spotty and Veiny Hands

Like your neck, when was the last time you put sunscreen on your hands. We tend to lotion our hands all the time, but most of us never apply sunscreen until we notice...SPOTS and WRINKLES, oh my!

What You Need To Do:

Plump, smooth, even-toned hands can only be maintained one way... antiaging products. Right, the same anti-aging products that you use on you face can be applied to you hands. Broken record, right. But it's so true. Retinoid and sunblock are critical in fighting aging skin.

What You Need To Know:

If the sunspots on your hands are really bad, have them lightened with laser. If your hands are veiny, they can be plumped up with Restylane, collagen, Sculptra, and fat injections.

What have we learned today, class?
Sunscreen helps to prevent lines and retinoids boost collagen and elastin.

Hope This Helps
